PROJECTS / Millbrook Station – Bush Assessments

Services: Ecological Assessment of native bush, Pest Management planning
Location: Pakiri
Date: 2009 - ongoing

Scrub Consultants has been involved in the assessment of numerous areas of native forest on the 1000ha Millbrook Station in Pakiri, owned by the Longuett-Hiiggins family. Ecological assessment work spanning over 3 years has seen in excess of 200ha of high to outstanding valued native bush being fenced and covenanted via Protected Private Property (PPP) covenants with DoC. The environmental benefits stemming from this work has enabled rural-residential subdivision on the property which in turn has helped support the farming operation. A local volunteer trapping group, the Tamahunga Trappers run mustelid trap lines through Millbrook’s high value areas of bush around Mt Tamahunga, with periodic possum poisoning and pig hunting by contractors.
